Technique Junkies – Foiled Pinecone

Hello, Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse here with some Autumn splendor using gold foiling.  I have a great kit from Indigo Blu, but any sticky glue and foil will do.

Stamps: Pinecone #SD821 and Autumn Set of 6

Supplies: A Colorful Life’s “Square Fade Stencil”, Delicata Gold Ink, My Favorite Things Flag Die, Flitter Glu, Tricolor foil, Distress Ink.

I love an interesting background and often just try things to see how they work.  The base layer of cardstock is colored using extra Distress ink I “mopped up” from my craft mat using a baby wipe and pouncing it on card stock.  The next layer is the gorgeous Delicata Gold ink on black card stock using the very detailed Autumn Set of 6 set. For the focal image, I started with more of the mopped up ink then over that I stenciled the Square Fade stencil using a light touch and making sure to heat set.  I then stamped the pine cone using Flitterglu and foiled.

We hope to see you in the Facebook group and participating in our monthly challenge over at the Design Team Blog.

Happy Inking!!

Technique Junkies – Starry ATC

The Crafty Nurse here today with more Technique Junkies inspiration using “Star Collage #S772” and “Rustic Pine SD838” from the September release to make an Artist Trading Card (ATC).

I began by embossing Star Collage with Distress embossing powder in Frayed Burlap.  I then used my MISTI to stamp the Rustic Pine stamp over the top giving a cool background.  My sentiment is heat embossed using Simple Sentiments 3a and I broke out my old postage scissors to cut the edges.

Sure hope you find some time to get your fingers inky today!

Cards in Envy Challenge: Easy as 1, 2, 3

Happy Monday!  It’s time for another Cards in Envy challenge.  This week our theme is “Easy as 1, 2, 3.” These are clean and simple cards.

As a reminder, Cards in Envy asks that your card fit into a standard A2 envelope for ease of mailing, but that doesn’t mean they have to be one layer.

For today’s card, I used Paper Smooches “Falling For You” set to stamp my apple onto patterned paper.  To add some dimension, I stamped again on a coordinating paper and fussy cut the apple center.  I popped up a few hearts and inked the edges to add more depth to my simple design.  To create the circle, I die cut a circle with masking paper and inked inside. The sentiment is also from the set and I thought matched perfectly with the apple theme.  I do love this time of year!

Hope we’ll see your “Easy as 1, 2, 3” cards over at the Cards in Envy challenge.  You have until October 1st to enter.

Technique Junkies – Seeing Stars

The Crafty Nurse here for a midweek post to spark your creative flow.  Have you joined our monthly challenge?  If not, we’d love to see your cards and your entry may just win a prize at the same time. You can find the challenge over on the sidebar of the Technique Junkies Blog.

We’d also love to see your cards and projects over at the new Technique Junkies Facebook Group.

Now let’s get on to the inspiration.  This stamp is perfect for both cards and art journal pages. I began by stamping “star collage” using the “Distressed Stain Direct” tutorial from the Bodacious Background CD which is on sale for $4.95.  I then stamped “star collage” again on grey card stock and sprayed with Distress Mica in silver.  I then cut out the stars using the My Favorite Things stitched star die and popped that up over the first panel. My sentiment was embossed.

Cards in Envy Challenge – Cheers to You!

For this Cards in Envy Challenge, we are raising our glass and having a “Cheers to You” theme.  Create a congratulations or celebration card for your entry.  Our challenge runs through Sunday, September 17th and the design team will be picking their favorites. As a quick reminder, Cards in Envy asks that you make your card fit into a standard A2 card, which is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.

My card today features a technique I saw by Kelly Laveotla comparing Distress Inks vs. Distress Oxide Inks.  I used Distress inks in Milled Lavender and Broken China.  My stamp is from an older Hero Arts kit long sold out but I liked the ease of cutting out the mask for this technique.  My sentiment is Alte New, “Magnolia’s For Her” which I white heat embossed.

I hope you will join us at Cards in Envy this week and show us your “Cheers to You” cards.
