Technique Junkies – Washi Tape Beauty

Happy Wednesday Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse here with a post sharing a card I made with the April Release stamp “Life is Tough #SD711”.  I’m crazy about this stamp.  So classic, so beautiful.

She is simply stamped using the MISTI with black Versafine Ink. The MISTI ensures that you can stamp and re-stamp without error.  I ended up stamping her three times to get a nice solid image.

The technique today is from the April/May 2013 Subscriber Pages called, “Snippets Tutorial”.   This technique’s background is washi tape and I am in love with the new Jane Davenport tapes. The tapes and image were a perfect marriage.

Come on over and play with us over at the new Technique Junkies Facebook Page.  We’d love to see your projects.

Technique Junkies – Row of Birds

The Crafty Nurse here today with an card featuring “Row of Birds”, one of the April Release stamps from Technique Junkies.   I embossed the birds with clear powder after stamping with Versafine Black Onyx ink. The medium is watercolor with yellow greens, blue and payne’s grey. My background is the “Watered Crayons” tutorial from April/May 2013.  My frame was created using a My Favorite Things frame die which I painted in Art Anthology Black Leather Jacket Sorbet.

Technique Junkies – Dahhhhling

Happy Thursday Friends!  Today I’m bringing another project from Technique Junkies April Release stamps.

My card started by white heat embossing “Life is Tough”. I then colored the background using Mermaid Markers in Coral, Pirates Gold, and Lobster. I colored this beauties skin using Koi black watercolor.  I also added the same black to the sentiment to make it pop.

To create the frame, I used the same concept Pat taught in February/March 2013 Subscriber Pages using “Block Fill” technique.  Instead of filling the block, I made lines using my T-ruler.

Hope you find some time to get crafty today.  We are all over at the Technique Junkies Facebook Page so if you haven’t stopped by, we’d love to see you!

Cards in Envy Challenge: Pretty Pastels

Happy Monday!  We here at Cards in Envy hope you are enjoying Spring.  Today we begin a new challenge highlighting “Pretty Pastels”.  What a great way to give some creative license.

As a quick reminder, please make sure your card fits into a standard A2 card without any large lumps or bumps. The challenge will run through Sunday, April 30th.  The design team will be choosing their favorite cards to feature on the The Cards in Envy blog.

Today, my card features a Technique Junkies Stamp called “Large Poppies” which I stamped in Versamark Ink and white heat embossed over My Favorite Things watercolor design paper.  The “because die” and sentiment are also My Favorite Things.  To create the dimension in the “because”, I die cut it four times and stacked it up, then applied with Matte Medium Gel.  I finished off with Hero Arts hearts.

We can’t wait to see your Pretty Pastel entries over at Cards in Envy this challenge.  If you are interested in purchasing the above stamp, you can use my discount TJ10Kathy at the Technique Junkies Store.

Nature’s Rainbow

Hey Junkies!!

The Crafty Nurse here to help you through your week with some creative inspiration using both new and old stamps.  The first is one of Pat’s April release stamps “Art of God SD799”.  I paired this with clearance stamp called “Age Spots #SD087”, which is the perfect way to add a “splash” of color to your cards or art journal pages.

One of the cool tips I learned about adding embellishments is to add a drop of Stickles or Nuvo Drops to the center of your sequence.  This adds just a little detail that can really make your project shine.

I hope this post brings some sunshine to your day! Please join us over at the new Facebook group, we’d love to see your work.

Also, using TJ10Kathy, gets you 10% off Technique Junkies stamps.

Bye for now,

Technique Junkies – Large Poppies

Hey Fellow Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse here today with another card from Technique Junkies.  Flowers represent the best of spring and these Large Poppies are so beautiful.

My card today is simply stamped using versamark ink which I then white heat embossed. I then brought in watercolors in a wet on wet fashion.  My sentiment is a perfect set for sympathy cards called, “With Sympathy Set of 5”, which I’ve heat embossed on heavy vellum.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today and as always we wish you lots of creative play today.  Stop by the Facebook Group to show us your work.

Fly Free – Technique Junkies Art Journal Page

The Crafty Nurse here today with an Art Journal page I made using some of the great April Release stamps from Technique Junkies.  The inspiration for this page was from Susanne Rose, mixed media artist.

Steps:

  1. Gesso Page
  2. Create a background using Inktense blocks or pencils
  3. Mellow out color with white gesso over whole page
  4. Choose stamps as background base. I used Star Power #S147, Here We Go Round In Circles #SS030 and Age Spots Spots #SD087
  5. Add depth with texture paste through stencil.  I used: Bubble Stencil and Square Fade.
  6. Color with thinned acrylic paint.  I used: Liquitex Fluorescent Pink, Blue & Green.
  7. Apply Black paint over texture, remove with baby wipe.
  8. Add additional stencil markings using paint
  9. Stamp desired image on Tim Holtz tissue tape.  I used: Row of Birds #SD788
  10. Collage image onto page using Matte Medium
  11. Color image/birds. I started with a base of Pitt Pens, which are an India Ink and permanent when dry. I then used the perfectly transparent Art Anthology Sorbet’s in Baby Blue Eyes, Vegas Gold, and Sunshine.  Sorbet’s add such glorious shimmer.  Outline image in black pitt pen and smudge to incorporate into the page.
  12. Stamp Sentiment “Art of God #SD799”.  I added some “oomph” by going over sentiment in Sakura Black Glaze.
  13. Add additional stamping with paint using background stamps, corrugated paper, credit cards, and other mark making tools.
  14. Finish the page with black and white spatters.  I use Liquitex ink.

Technique Junkies – Blowing in the Breeze

Hey Junkies,

The Crafty Nurse  here today thinking about my summer vacation on the beach!  A girl can dream, right?

I used the Misti stamping tool to create my card today. The great thing about this tool is when you have a solid stamp, you can still get a really crisp image.  It also helps when you are doing more complex masking like I did here with the Technique Junkies stamp “Palm Tree’s Set Of 3 SS069.”

The technique is not complicated.  I’ve taken Palm Tree’s Set of 3 #SS069 and used the Misti tool to create a multilayered effect with Distress Markers.  The Misti allows you to keep your stamp in the same place and repeatedly use different colors. I saw this technique by the wonderful Jill Foster and thought it would be perfect for this TJ Stamp.

Steps:

1) Place stamp in Misti to desired position

2) Color trunk of tree beginning with Frayed Burlap Distress Marker stamping in between each new color addition. Move on to darker colors in Gathered Twigs and Espresso to create shadow and depth.

3) Now apply Distress Marker to trees in the same fashion.  I used Shabby Shutters and Peeled Paint.

4) Once all the coloring is done, apply versamark and heat set. This creates a protective layer and allows you to work on the background without dulling your focal image colors.

5) Reverse Mask Moon by using die cut circle through masking paper. Apply Distress Ink in Mustard Seed and Fossilized Amber

6) Complete card with the sentiment  “Winds of Change”

I hope you’ve found a little inspiration today.  If you’d like to try this technique, you can pick up this stamp at Technique Junkies using the 10% discount TJ10Kathy.  If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll be happy to assist.  Or you can join us in the Facebook group to enjoy some stamping conversation and card inspiration.

Pat is still offering her new release stamps at 15% off as well so happy shopping.

In the spirit of spring, I went to the Subscriber Pages for Technique Junkies and chose techniques from the April/May 2013 section. My first card features “Life is Tough #SD711”.  Isn’t she gorgeous?  I began by making the background which uses the “Snippets Technique” combined with the new Jane Davenport Washi Tape.  A match made in heaven. I stamped her on white card stock using my MISTI tool and versafine black onyx ink, then embossed and fussy cut her out then placing her on a die cut panel.  I finished off with bling and called it fabulous DAHHHHling.

My second card features the April release stamp, “Butterfly Dreams #SD775”.  This card began with the “Design Paper Starburst” tutorial using Basic Grey’s Fresh Cut paper.  I stamped Butterfly Dreams with versamark and clear heat embossed.  Once that set, I distressed over the image to create a soft spring card.

My final card features “Honor and Love #SD797”, which I stamped over “Faux Paint Swatch” technique using Hero Arts Shadow Inks in Soft Granite and Mint Julip and Hero Arts Hybrid in Apple Green. My background is embossed with We R’ Memory Keepers geometric folder.

Now, that I’ve shown you what I have to offer, I don’t want you to miss any of the other design teams creativity so I encourage you to start hopping at the Technique Junkies Design Team Blog.

The focal image called “Can’t Afford The Cat SD764” is simply stamped with Versafine Black Onyx Ink using my MISTI tool, then heat embossed with an application of Distress Inks in Wild Honey and Gathered Twigs over the top.  I used “Paid In Full #P027”, a Palettini Collection stamp as way to add additional text for the background of both focal and background images.
