Sketch Saturday Challenge #363
Happy Saturday! Today’s new Sketch Saturday challenge is sponsored by Digi Stamp Boutique who is offering the randomly chosen winner a 10 pound gift certificate to their store!
It’s also the 5th Saturday of the month and that means you get to pick your own sketch! Here is a link to find all the sketches you can choose from and boy are there a lot. You have until Friday, June 5th for a chance to win.
Here’s the sketch I chose:
For my card I chose Digi Stamp Boutique’s “Edwin & Hetty”, which I colored with Copic Markers and used the My Minds Eye “Fancy That” 6 x 6 paper pack. The circle and square dies are both My Favorite Things. The paper behind the circle is made using a Jenny Bowlin stencil and Simon Says Stamp “Pale Blush Pink” ink. The sentiment is WPlus9 “Hand Lettered Thanks”.
I can’t wait to see which sketch you choose for the new Sketch Saturday Challenge!
Chicken Sandwich Anyone?
Good Day Junkies! The Crafty Nurse here with a post from the Technique Junkies May Release.
For this card card I broke out my Distress Inks in Scattered Straw and Abandoned Coral on Smooth Bristol paper to create the technique called, “Color Sandwich” from the Simple & Easy Inking Technique CD. When blending distress inks make sure you start off the page and then move in circular motion toward the card with light consistent pressure. The Bristol Smooth paper is amazing for blending distress inks
I embossed “Chicken MC002” with Versafine Black Onyx Ink and heat set with clear powder, which I prefer to black embossing powder. The sentiment “Needed To Be #553”, fits nicely next to my image and adds a little bit of whimsey needed for the card.
To finish off, I added Viva Pearl Pen in Pearl all over the dots on the “Chicken” image and in black to add interest to the top right corner.
I sure hope you get a chance to stop on over to the new Technique Junkies store and see all the new May release stamps as well as other great new products.
Happy Inking!

Technique Junkies Memorial Poppy
Happy Memorial Day friends. Having a father who served in the Navy for 20 years and a son who just completed his service to the Marines, this day always brings me to thoughts of those who gave their lives for our freedom.
The Memorial Day Poppy was originated by Moina Michael in 1915, as inspired by the poem, “Flanders Fields”. She developed her own poem that went as such:
We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.
For my contribution today I made a card featuring Poppy “SD293” by Technique Junkies. I began using the Scene Silhouette technique on the Simple & Easy Inking Technique CD found at the Technique Junkies store. The background is created using Pan Pastels and washi tape. After stamping the poppy on the Scene Silhouette background in archival ink, I colored in with Liquitex Ink in Naphthol Crimson. The sentiment is from my favorite of Technique Junkies called, “Things I want to do”.
ADFD – Challenge 122
It’s another busy day at the Crafty Nurse’s Blog. Here is another card using one of my favorite digital companies, A Day For Daisies. I always try to enter this challenge because I love coloring the images and hope to win more! Right now, this image is FREE on the challenge site. I colored this sweet image with Copic Markers and used American Crafts “#Summer” paper pack. The flower dies are from WPlus9, the rectangle dies are Lawn Fawn, and the frame die is MFT. Finally, the background is impression obsession and the sentiment is Simon Says Stamp “Circle Sayings”.

Lawnscaping Challenge – Try a New Technique
Today I broke out my distress ink cubes to watercolor with for the Lawnscaping “Try a New Technique” challenge. I hadn’t had a chance to use the “Soy Happy” stamp set so I thought the two would be a good merge.
I started with the new Tim Holtz stencil called “Mesh” using old paper distress ink. After watercoloring all the images on watercolor paper stamped with archival ink I fussy cut them and went around with a black pen to clean up the edges (for more on how to do this check out my other post). I arranged the images and stamped the heart coloring it with Pigma Archival Brush Pen in red.
Thanks for stopping by!

Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop
Hello Friends. It’s time for the annual Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop. This is a special hop as our mission this year is finishing strong because Operation Write Home is closing it’s doors! I’d love for you to help me get the word out that we need to finish strong. That means we still need cards, but they must be sent in no later than August 1, 2015.
For your participation in the hop, if you leave a comment on my blog I am giving away a brand new Dylusions Paint jar in Bubblegum Pink!
So let’s get to a little inspiration. For my card I broke out my old tools of dry embossing, the light table and stylus. One thing I had forgotten was you have to reverse the stencil so the image comes out in the right direction. My first go had my flag facing left and that just won’t do! HAHA.
I inked the edges with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo to create the distressed look. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink “Military Hero” stamp set. Paper is from Farmhouse “Fair Skies” collection.
Please leave me a comment and if you like what you see, sign up to get my e-mail notifications for more inspiration.
Happy Hopping and don’t forget, please continue to send your cards into OWH until August 1st!

For my card today, I used, “Cute Giraffe” by Chi Chi Memories. The song that inspired my card was a child’s book called “Giraffe’s Can’t Dance.” If you want a chuckle, I’ve linked you to a cute video with the song on YouTube.
The “Cute Giraffe” was colored with copic markers and fussy cut. The background and sentiment was created using an older Club Scrap stamp set called “Cute As A Button” stamped with Hero Arts Shadow Ink. The squares are cut out using My Favorite Things Stitched dies and I finished off the card with a few pearls.
I can’t wait to see what you are singing this challenge!
