Technique Junkies – Washi Tape Beauty

Happy Wednesday Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse here with a post sharing a card I made with the April Release stamp “Life is Tough #SD711”.  I’m crazy about this stamp.  So classic, so beautiful.

She is simply stamped using the MISTI with black Versafine Ink. The MISTI ensures that you can stamp and re-stamp without error.  I ended up stamping her three times to get a nice solid image.

The technique today is from the April/May 2013 Subscriber Pages called, “Snippets Tutorial”.   This technique’s background is washi tape and I am in love with the new Jane Davenport tapes. The tapes and image were a perfect marriage.

Come on over and play with us over at the new Technique Junkies Facebook Page.  We’d love to see your projects.

Now onto the Technique Junkies  April Blog Hop!  The fabulous Technique Junkie Design Team  will provide an amazing selection of inspiration for your crafty pleasure.

In the spirit of spring, I went to the Subscriber Pages for Technique Junkies and chose techniques from the April/May 2013 section. My first card features “Life is Tough #SD711”.  Isn’t she gorgeous?  I began by making the background which uses the “Snippets Technique” combined with the new Jane Davenport Washi Tape.  A match made in heaven. I stamped her on white card stock using my MISTI tool and versafine black onyx ink, then embossed and fussy cut her out then placing her on a die cut panel.  I finished off with bling and called it fabulous DAHHHHling.

My second card features the April release stamp, “Butterfly Dreams #SD775”.  This card began with the “Design Paper Starburst” tutorial using Basic Grey’s Fresh Cut paper.  I stamped Butterfly Dreams with versamark and clear heat embossed.  Once that set, I distressed over the image to create a soft spring card.

My final card features “Honor and Love #SD797”, which I stamped over “Faux Paint Swatch” technique using Hero Arts Shadow Inks in Soft Granite and Mint Julip and Hero Arts Hybrid in Apple Green. My background is embossed with We R’ Memory Keepers geometric folder.

Now, that I’ve shown you what I have to offer, I don’t want you to miss any of the other design teams creativity so I encourage you to start hopping at the Technique Junkies Design Team Blog.

Technique Junkies July Blog Hop!

Happy July 1st fellow Junkies!  With summer here, the Technique Junkie Design Team is celebrating with a blog hop showcasing the new Technique Junkies stamps for July.  In addition to some fabulous stamps, there are stencils, art anthology colorations, and a variety of dimensional mediums perfect for those who like to play with ink.  As is her custom, Pat is offering 15% off all July Release Stamps for one week!  WooHoo!

I’d love for you to stop by all the design team’s blogs listed below for great ideas on how to use those new July Release stamps found in the Technique Junkies Store.

I wanted to start the hop off with a patriotic flare using a combination of new and existing Technique Junkies stamps.  The background was built using “Patriot Fragments”, a fabulous set that can be used all together for a background like I have done, or individually as elements on your projects.  The technique is the Big Bold Blending Tutorial from the Bodacious Backgrounds CD using Candy Apple Red and Faded Jeans Distress Inks.  To build the focal image, I started with the Tim Holtz stars stencil using the Gelato Wipe technique (but with distress ink) from Sensational Stencils CD.   I then stamped the new “Dream Big SD697” from the July release and went over that with a black gel pen to add pop.

July1

My second card features the new “Mermaid Love #S698” which I stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black ink and colored up with Copic Markers.  To create the sun rays I used the basic “Grunged Stencil Technique from the Sensational Stencils CD” with the Tim Holtz Ray’s stencil and Scattered Straw, Fossilized Amber, Squeezed Lemonade, and Mustard Seed inks. The sentiment is another new July stamps called, “Better At The Lake Set of 5 – SS057”.  I finished off the white water with Copic White Paint applied with a stipple brush, a great way to add texture and “splash” to water.

July6

My next card  uses the “Colorwash Alcohol Tutorial from the August/September 2012 Technique Junkies Newsletter.  I love the depth and variety of color in this technique and the way it sets off the boats in the new “Rowboats #712” stamp.  The sentiment is from a previous release called,  “Winds of Change SD621” .

July5

My last card uses some copper Washi Tape for the background.  For more ideas using Washi tape, check out “Washi Tape & Ribbons CD.  My focal stamps is “Rescue Love SD689” that I stamped with Tombow Markers in several colors, then painted Art Anthology Dimensional paint in Vegas Gold, Kenyan Copper, and Desire.  The background is one of my favorite TJ Stamps “Faint Scratches #S518” stamped in Antique Linen Distress Ink.

Technique Junkies May Blog Hop!!

It’s the first of the month and you know what that means, right? It’s time for a Technique Junkies  Blog Hop featuring the new May release!  The fabulous Technique Junkie Design Team  will provide an amazing selection of inspiration for your enjoyment so make sure you stop by and check them out.

Pat is again offering 15% off all May Release Stamps for one week! In addition to new stamps, Technique Junkies has great art supplies like Gelli Plates, stencils, dimensional paints, sprays, and so much more.

This month, I am offering a Technique Junkies Stamp to a random commenter on this post.  Please make sure you tell me which is your favorite card this month.

For the background of my first card I used the “Metallic Bands” technique from the Technique Junkies October 2006 newsletter with Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink and Silver Hero Arts ink. The focal image is “London ATC #SD721” which I stamped in archival ink and used the “Dipped Stain” Technique from “Artistic Effects CD”.  The Mustache and sentiment are also new for May called, “London Calling Set of 9 SS056”.

April1-2016

When I received this next stamp set for this May release I was thrilled.  This set is a smaller version of several of the Palettini ladies as well as some great new sentiments called, “Beautiful Faces PS016”.  My favorite has always been this African girl – I just love her head piece. I knew I wanted some bright colors so I brought out bright washi tape using the “Washi Paper Piecing Technique” from the August 2006 Newsletter.

April2-2016 copy

My next card features the sentiment “Behave Yourself SDX072”. The background is a super fun technique called “Textured Pearls” from the December 2007 Technique Junkies Newsletter.  I then ran it through using a We R Memory Keepers folder and cut it out using a Simon Says Stamp stitched frame die.

April3-2016 copy

My final project uses the gorgeous sentiment “Life Full of Love SD682”.  The background Blueprint Sketch and Hickory Smoke Distress ink using the Dip Stain technique from Artistic Effects CD.  I sprayed the flowers with Art Anthology Colorations in “Raiders”.

April9-2016 copy

From The Heart Stamps Sketch #148 – Twist: Add Washi

Hello friends!  Happy Monday!  It’s a busy day here at the Crafty Nurse’s Blog and I’m here with Sketch #148 by From The Heart Stamps.  These are great challenges because you can use just the sketch, or if you’d like, add the twist. The only requirement is that you use a From The Heart image.  The rest is up to you. The twist for this challenge is “Add Washi”.

Sketch148
I have a lot of washi so I was in for both the sketch and the twist this week. My image is, “Birdbath Chick”  which I colored with Copic Markers.  I wanted to play around with a technique I saw on the Copic website for bubbles and I’m happy with the outcome. You can find it here on my Pinterest page.  My dies are by My Favorite Things and the paper is Echo Park “Sunshine”.

Sketch148

I hope you’ll join us for the sketch this week at From The Heart Stamps for sketch #148!  You have until Sunday, April 24th to enter.

The House That Stamps Built; Project of the week: 4-18-16

Hello stampers!

The Crafty Nurse here with a Project of the Week for The House that Stamps Built.  Today I’m bringing you a super easy technique using Pan Pastel’s, which if you are not familiar are great pans of gorgeous chalky color.

For this project the supplies I used are:

IMG_3936

I began by cutting a piece of smooth bristol paper into 4.25 by 4.25 pieces and treated it with an antistatic bag.

IMG_3933

I then placed a light application of blue pan pastel chalk over the entire surface of the bristol paper.

IMG_3940

I inked up the “Nature’s Quartet” with Versmark…

IMG_3929

and stamped it onto the paper coated with the first layer of Pan Pastel’s.

IMG_3935

After making sure your Versamark is dry, apply a darker hue over the stamped image.  This provides excellent contrast to your image picking up only in the areas of the stamped image .  Don’t be afraid to use different colors as the Pan Pastel’s mix very well. For example, try a yellow base layer with red over your stamped image. If you have the metallic pan pastel’s, you can start with gold, then layer over with any other color for a metallic hue.

IMG_3941

I chose to use a diagonal pattern when applying the darker hues.  I did one corner in darker green and the opposite in darker blue.

IMG_3942

To finish off I sprayed a pastel fixative but if you don’t have that you can use hair spray.

IMG_3945

That’s  all there is to it!  For my finished card, I added a little bit of washi tape as a frame and embossed my center wood leaf with versmark and Stampendous powder.  I love altering my wooden embellishments.

IMG_3947

I hope you enjoyed this super easy tutorial and break out some of those Pan Pastels you’ve been hoarding!

Hope you’ll join us on Wednesday for the Photo Inspiration Challenge.  I know you’ll love it!

From The Heart Stamps Sketch #143 – Twist: Use Your Stash

Hello friends!  Happy Monday!  I’m here with sketch #143 at From The Heart Stamps. These are great challenges because you can use just the sketch, or if you’d like, add the twist. The only requirement is that you use a From The Heart image and the sketch.  The rest is up to you. The twist for this challenge is to use an item from your stash.

Sketch143

I used both the sketch and the twist this week by covering a piece of white paper in Washi tape.   My image is the new, “Love You Mouse” which I colored with Copic Markers and cut out with a stitched My Favorite Things flag die.  The background is textured with an embossing folder and the scallop die is Lawn Fawn.

Sketch 144

Sure hope you’ll join us for Sketch #143 at From The Heart Stamps this week. Also, don’t forget to stop by and join the FTHS Facebook group.  Happy Monday!!
