Cards in Envy Challenge – Tuxedo!

For this Cards in Envy Challenge, we are all about the black and white cards for our “Tuxedo” challenge. Create any black and white themed card for your entry.  Our challenge runs through Sunday, January, 28th and the design team will be picking their favorites. As a quick reminder, Cards in Envy asks that you make your card fit into a standard A2 card, which is 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches.

My card today features an older Stampin’ Up image used with a square scalloped punch. The black and white papers are from My Minds Eye and cut with a Lawn Fawn scalloped die. My script stamp is from Impression Obsessions, which I stamped in Hero Arts Shadow ink in soft granite. I edged in white pen, wrapped the focal in black and white twine, and finished with 3 black pearls.

I hope you will join us at Cards in Envy this week and show us your “Tuxedo” cards.

Technique Junkies – Coffee Gauge

Hello Junkies

I’m here today with some quick inspiration using the November Technique Junkies stamp release called, “Coffee Gauge #SD703” which I stamped using the Misti tool.  I love using this tool because with large surface stamps like this one you often don’t get a good first impression.

The background is the result of some play with Alcohol Inks on Yupo.  The great thing about this technique is if you don’t like it, simply wipe it off and start over.  So forgiving.  For added flare my background was sent through a texture folder from We R memor Keepers.

The Coffee Gauge is stamped with a dye based ink, then over that I applied Art Anthology Dazzled, which gave it both texture and shine.  I finished off with dyed twine and called her done!

Sure hope you find some time to get your fingers inky today and I’ll see you later on this month for more junkie goodness.

See you then!

For my card this week I used Repeat Impressions “Plate 2300” which is a collection of Halloween images. I started by creating the background by stenciling black pan pastel through the Tim Holtz web stencil.  I then stamped the Repeat Impression bats and spider webs on a blue panel.  My sentiment is also from the Halloween Plate 2300.

For those who follow my blog, you’ll know that fall is my favorite season of the year.  Now that Hero Arts has put together color layering packages with accompanying ink cube colors, I couldn’t resist Jayne Nelson’s Fall set which includes Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine, Lemon Yellow, and Strawberry.

We look forward to seeing your “Masculine” cards this month and I’ll be back later on in the month for another collaborative project with Hero Arts.

12 Tags of 2016: June – Tim Holtz

I’ve finished my June 12 Tags by Tim Holtz making several substitutions from the original but keeping with the offered techniques. I made a gold flag with Tarnished Brass Distress Crackle Paint, die cut the “dream” die by Tim Holtz and used Distress Crayons for shading.  I finished off with some Chit Chat words and twine.   I’m also entering this in the Mixed Media Monthly challenge for “Get Texty’.

If you have arrived from Kathy Curry’s website, you are in the right place, if not why don’t you start on the From the Heart Stamps blog, so you don’t miss anything.

For my project, I wanted to feature “Snow Girl” using a Valentine theme.  This past week I received the Splitcoast Stampers newsletter and saw a cool four (4) Way card by Dina Kowal so I immediately thought what a great way to feature this adorable image.  I colored this sweet snow girl with my Copic Markers in R85, R83, R81, W5, W3, & W1.  My design paper is American Crafts “Valentine” collection I found at AC more for dirt cheap.  The heart die is from Nellie’s Dies and has several sizes to choose from.  I used a few embellishments from the My Favorite Things Tag Blueprints 5 die.   The image is floating in the heart by a bit of bakers twine in pink.

Technique Junkies

The Crafty Nurse here with a post using some of the great new release stamps from January.  When I saw the book themed stamps, the first thing I thought about was creating some fabulous bookmarks.

I used alcohol inks a few different ways.  First I dropped them directly onto the tag then added 91% alcohol on top with a dropper to create great movement.  Then I used the more traditional polished stone technique using the applicator and blending solution then pouncing on the tag.

After applying the ink, I stamped “Books #S644” on a few tags and heat embossed with clear.  I then chose several of the sentiments from “Bookworms #SS054″ and stamped those as well.  To finish off I created tassels with bakers twine and metallic thread.  I found a great tutorial on Pinterest on how to make these very quickly.

I hope everyone is enjoying their new year and making time to get your fingers inky.  Also, don’t forget, Pat has offered $15% off the January Release stamps until the 8th so stop by the Technique Junkies store and grab up some goodies.

Take care,

From The Heart Stamps Sketch #127 – Twist: Lots of White-use embellishments for color

Hello friends!  Happy Monday!  I’m here with sketch #127 at From The Heart Stamps.  These are great challenges because you can use just the sketch, or if you’d like, add the twist. The only requirement is that you use a From The Heart image and the sketch.  The rest is up to you. The twist for this challenge is to use a mostly white card and add embellishments for color.

Sketch127

I used only the sketch this week.  My image is a happy snowman called, “Catching Flakes” which I colored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Watercolor Markers.  I created the background using the My Favorite Things “Candy Stripe” builder background.  I finished off with the button embellishments and some diamond stickles for sparkle.
