Open-Minded Crafting Challenge #39 – Vintage

Happy Saturday!  Today at Open-Minded Crafting Challenges we are celebrating all things Vintage!  This is not in my comfort zone but with great sponsor images, it was a breeze.

You have until Friday, July 3rd to show us your Vintage entries.  Our winners are chosen randomly and we have some super sponsors offering prizes for our challenge.

Here are our sponsors:

Fantasty Art of Nikki BurnettePrize: 5 Images of Winners Choice

For inspiration, I used a the super cool Nikki Burnette image called, “Steampunk Josie”. I distressed a woodgrain paper from Prima’s Cartographer collection and cut out the gears from the same paper pack with a Sizzix die.  I also distressed the edges with Antique Linen distress ink and added Tim Holtz film strip ribbon and metal embellishment gears.  I think she looks sassy alright!Steampunk Josie-wm

Technique Junkies Vintage Ship Collage

Happy Tuesday Junkies!  Today I’m coming to you with a little inspiration featuring the stunning Palettini Background Stamp called, “Vintage Ship Collage.”   For more ways to use background stamps, check out Pat’s great ideas called, Collage stamps 4 ways.

For this card I used older Technique Junkies technique from the Feb/March 2007 newsletter called, Distressed Dragging.  I modified this technique to use a straight edge rather than a torn edge.  The ribbon is from Ellen Hutson and is a gift with every purchase.  The metal findings are Tim Holtz.

Oh, and don’t forget Technique Junkies having a %15 off sale on all new May Stamp Releases and it’s almost over!

March Tim Holtz Tag 2015

Today I finished the March 2015 Tim Holtz Tag.  It uses distress paint for the background on top of some washi.  The butterfly stamp is from the new set called “Perspective”.  I heat embossed and masked it off to place the gold ferro over the tag in place of the recommended texture paste with embossing powder.  It skips several steps and I think it turns out just as nice.  I embellished the tag with some Lindy’s Stamp Gang sprayed ribbon in Grab a Guy Gold and some metallic gold thread my sweet friend Lynn gave to me in a care package.

Tim Holtz February Tag 2015

Can anyone tell me where this darn year is heading so fast?  Is it really February already?

Enough nostalgia, let’s get to some art!  I had a great time making Tim Holtz’s February’s tag.  It’s collaging, which I’m really not that good at, but I gave it my best.  I didn’t have the Ephemera pack that the project called for so I printed different vintage valentine images from the internet distressed them, and made the base for my tag, or should I say tags since I decided to create two while I was at it.

Lindy’s Stamp Gang December Color Challenge: Card 2

I spent this lovely Sunday morning playing with my Lindy’s Stamp Gang products.  I used the December color challenge as a starting point to create two different cards that I will post separately for entry purposes.  The Sprays I used were Opal Sea Oats, Tibetan Poppy Teal, and Azure Sea Asters.  The magical Mica’s used were Rizzo’s Rowdy Red and T-Bird Turquoise.   I also used Lindy’s Midnight Teal embossing powder over the heart charm, also from Lindy’s.  The background also has Molding Cream by Viva Decor in pearl used with stencils, some I Am Roses flowers colored with the above colors and some Tim Holtz embellishments and ribbon.  The red hearts are cut from a Simon Says Stamp heart die using grunge paper and colored with Gesso and Rizzo’s Rowdy Red Magical.

12 Tags from Tim Holtz – August

August 12 Tags

August 12 Tags

I love to participate in Tim’s 12 Tags.  This month’s was SUPER easy.  I love how the washi tape acted as a resist so none of the stains, paints or inks colored it.  I also like the Distress embossing powder and how it looks like rust.  I didn’t have the Vintago Photo color, but did have tea dye and I think it still works.  If you are going to do this, I recommend  (as did Tim but I failed to pay attention) you do your heat embossing before you attach the plastic film strip because it melts……   I didn’t have his Texture Paste, but used standard molding paste from the art store and it colored just as nicely.  I also brought out some old sewing rub-ons as I don’t have my sewing machine out.   Hope you enjoy!
