Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags with a Feminine Twist: Day 2

I’m still making tags and sharing them over at the Ellen Hutson’s Classroom. For this tag, I was inspired by Day 2, Dina Kowal who for the assignment made a tag using this color palette, however, on her blog, made the most wonderful tag that inspired me even more.  Hope it’s okay that I deviated a little Ellen!

Color

My tag is Papertrey Ink. I used Clearly Besotted’s Ornamental Style Die to create a mask.  I then applied FW Pearlescent paints for color to the background, stamped a Our Daily Bread background stamp and finished off with a Hero Arts sentiment.

The House That Stamps Built: Anything Goes

It’s the fifth Wednesday of the Month and time for The House That Stamps Built Anything Goes challenge.  This doesn’t come around too often, but it’s your time to do anything you wish.  You have until Tuesday, August 4th to enter for a chance to win a $25.00 gift certificate at Repeat Impressions.

For my card today I broke out my Kuretake Gamsi Watercolors.  I started by stamping the Repeat Impressions “Love Birds 1707-M with Archival Black Ink so it wouldn’t bleed. I did the same for the sentiment, “Love, Hugs 2509-H”.

The die is from Our Daily Bread Designs and so beautiful.  As a hint, when you have dies that are so detailed, use wax paper between the paper and die and it will come out easier.  You also want to make sure you have good pressure by adding some shims.

Send a Smile 4 Kids: Bright Colors 4 Kids

Happy Saturday!  That means it’s time for a new Send a Smile 4 Kids challenge and we are celebrating Bright Colors 4 Kids!  You have until Friday, July 24th to enter your card. We are always so grateful to our wonderful sponsors who support us by offering such great prizes.

Those sponsors are:

1) Stitchy Bear – offering $10 dollar gift certificate to store.

2) The Cutting Cafe– offering 3 digital images or cut files of winners choice.

3) Sassy Studios – offering 4 digital images of winners choice.

My first card uses Stitchy Bears Cartoon Boy Riding on Skateboard” digital image which I colored with Copic Markers.  The sentiment is also Stitchy Bear from “Tammy Tween” digital image. I colored the edges with distress ink while the spellbinders die was still in place creating that great white border. The background is an embossing folder by Darice and a great price at Hobby Lobby.  The stars across the card are from Simon Says Stamp “Hey Dude.”

The next card features a super fun project from The Cutting Cafe called,  “Sail Boat Shaped Card Set”.  This project can be done without a specialized cutting machine by simply printing the PDF file from a standard printer, which I’ve done.  The pattern paper is from Our Daily Bread.  To create the layers behind the pattern paper, I used the same pattern then trimmed a little off each side to fit.  To ensure both sides were even, I cut both right and left pattern papers at the same time.  I distressed the edges of the card stock with Distress Ink and colored wood veneer stars using my new Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers.  The sentiment was cut using standard circle dies from My Favorite Things.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with using Bright Colors 4 Kids.

Don’t forget, Send a Smile 4 Kids has added more hospitals and need your donated cards. Come on over and check out the donation needs. Here’s How.

Cards in Envy Challenge: Red, White & Blue

Happy Monday!  That means it’s time for a new Cards in Envy Challenge and this week we are celebrating the good old “Red, White & Blue”!  Your card does not have to be patriotic, just needs to use those colors.

Please make sure your card fits into a standard A2 card without any large lumps or bumps. The challenge will run through Sunday, June 28th and our design team will be choosing their favorite cards to feature on the The Cards in Envy blog.

I cut out and popped up the Celebrate die from My Favorite Things.  The stars are dies from Papertrey Ink.  This gorgeous star paper is from Our Daily Bread’s Patriotic Collection.  To finish off, I used Bazzill’s Blueberry Cardshoppe Cardstock for the card base.

Technique Junkies Blog Hop!

Happy May 1st!  It’s time for another Technique Junkies Blog Hop. For this hop, we are celebrating the new May Release at the Technique Junkies Store.  In addition to cool new stamps, there are new stencils, art anthology colorations, and a variety of new dimensional mediums perfect for those who like to play with ink.  As a special treat, Pat is offering 15% off all May Release Stamps for one week!  WooHoo!

Stop by all the design team’s blogs for great samples of the other new May Release stamps. Being from Southern California, I was excited to see that some of the release is beached themed and focused my cards on that theme.

My first card uses the Background Popup Technique from the Simple & Easy Inking CD.  I started by stamping the Sand Dollars #S617 image on two sheets of Bristol Smooth card stock with Simon Says Stamp Ink in Khaki.  I cut out the sand dollars from one of the sheets and popped them up on the uncut image.  I stamped “Listen to the Sea #SDX053” using Versafine Black Onyx Ink and clear heat embossed. To give that extra touch, I took a black sharpie pen and ran it around all the popped up images to give them a frame.

May Release - Closeup

My second card features another beach themed May Release stamp called, Starfish #S629.  I used the Aged Tiles Technique, also from the Simple & Easy Easy CD.  After inking the stamp with multiple brown distress inks, I cut the panel apart in staggering sizes, inked the edges, and placed them back together on my card base. The sentiment is from, “Things I want to do #S546” and resting on a Our Daily Bread Label Die.  I tied down the image with some twine to add even more of a beach feel.
