I’ve been working on my week 4 project and decided to do a canvas. I was partially inspired by May Flaum and by instructor Jenn Mason who taught a great out of the box class working on black gesso. I was fairly pleased with how this came out as it was my very first canvas. One of the things I did that I wouldn’t do again is cover the focal embellishment with Matte Medium. You can see that it didn’t dry clear, which shocked me so there are little white clumps that look funny in closeup. I also had some odd reaction with the spray paints – the orange “broke”. Kind of like oil and water. Not sure what happened.
The products used were: Liqutex Spray Paints, Liquitex fluid ink in Deep Purple & Naphthol Crimson, FW Pearlescent by Daler Rowney in Genesis Green, Molotow Markers in White, Black and Grey, Dina Wakely Paint in Blackberry Violet, Stencils from Heidi Swapp (hearts) and Club Scrap (sentiment), rub-ons, Tim Holtz grunge hearts, Rose from I am Roses, wire and metal from stash.
Day 28 is using Embossing Pastes and Sprays. I used Molding Paste with a Club Scrap Stencil from “Breathe” collection and sprayed Dylusions over that. Then I used some cut out collage pages we did earlier in the month to make my flowers collaging them on top. I then used Multi-medium to cover the flowers and highlighted them with the Pitt Brush Pen from Faber Castell. That’s a great technique if you haven’t tried it because you can make a pen mark and then wipe it away if you work quickly, leaving a halo surrounding the flowers. Only two more days left, then back to some card making. Woohoo!
Today’s technique was using FlitterGlu and Metal Flakes. As I don’t have that and my metal leafing is packed, I just did a normal page, this time trying a darker background. I also made more newsprint collage pages to get some colorful flowers. I’m loving the newsprint collage pages! I also added shading with the Faber Castell Pit Brush Pen. As long as you have multi-medium down on the page, you have a few minutes to wipe down the marker to create depth.
Today’s page is using a newsprint collage that was made for Day 18, then cut up and adhered to the journal page with multi-medium. The newsprint is SO MUCH easier to use than watercolor paper as it is easy to decoupage on the page and looks as if it’s part of the page, not added on. To color the image I outlined with my Faber Castell Pitt Big Brush Pen and then wiped it off to create shading. Then I doodled with Molotow Markers, my new favorite toy!
Shhhhhh – Don’t tell Bob I’m not packing….. Today is Day 12 of Exploring Art Journaling 3 using a photo for color inspiration and what Spring means to me for a journaling prompt. I also used some of the collage sheets I painted for the flowers and then used the Molotow Acrylic Markers on top. Now I learned that when you use Distress Markers, then top with multi-medium, it smears all to heck! Still looks okay – but good to learn.
