Technique Junkies Blog Hop!

We are ringing in the Holidays for the September Technique Junkies Blog Hop.  This release features Halloween and Christmas for your upcoming holiday crafting.  The fabulous Technique Junkie Design Team  will be hosing a blog hop to showcase the new holiday stamps and spark creative ideas for your festive inking.

Pat is again offering 15% off all September Release Stamps for one week!  In addition to new stamps, Technique Junkies has added more new products to the store including stencils, art anthology colorations, Prills, and a variety of fun dimensional mediums perfect for those who like to play with ink.

My first card uses the Color Sandwich Technique from the Simple & Easy Inking CD for the background.  The inks used were Twisted Citron, Black Soot, and Ripe Persimmon.  Once all my colors were laid down I inked Versamark through the Spider Web Tim Holtz Stencil and applied clear powder.  This added some texture without taking away from the technique.  The focal image is “Black Cat SD615,” which I embossed then watercolored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers.  The sentiment “Fright Night SDX054” was again stamped over a Spider Web stenciled background of Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink.

My second card uses the “Depth of Field Technique also from the Simple & Easy Inking Techniques CD”.  This worked so well with the Set of 6 stamps in “Christmas Trees #SS045.”  I love the variety of trees in this set and can’t wait to make more cards using it.  After creating the depth of field background, I did some inlayed die cutting using the Papertrey Ink “Peace” die.  To make it pop-up I cut out four “peace” words and stacked them up.  The colors used are from Hero Arts Shadow inks in Vanilla, Royal Red, Charcoal and Field Green.

Sept-Christmas Trees-wm

My next two cards feature the stunning sentiment called, “Merry Christmas #SD654.” This sentiment is so beautiful on it’s own I wanted to keep my cards very clean and simple.  I heat embossed the image on both cards and added sequins for some embellishment. The first cards background die is from Our Daily Bread and the second is Memory Box.

Technique Junkies Design Team Post: Let’s Face It

Hey Junkies!

I’m back with you today with a little more inspiration from Pat’s August release. I had so much fun during our blog hop this past weekend today I’m featuring another card using “Let’s Face It 5” from the Palettini Collection.

The background started with Distress Paint in Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade.  Once that dried I applied black paint through a Heidi Swapp Stencil using the “Stencil Turn” Technique on the Sensational Stencil CD.

For my image I stamped “Let’s Face It 5 #P030” on book paper using Adirondack Espresso Ink. Her face is colored with Liquitex Fluid Ink in Burnt Sienna diluted with water, the lips are Twinkling H20’s in Hopeful Honeysuckle, and the Eyes are FW Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic in Genesis Green. Okay, Okay – yes, I have a lot of inks…..

For her headpiece, I stamped it on Amy Tangerine’s Rise & Shine paper and clear embossed.  I fussy cut the head piece and applied it back onto the image.  Once everything was dry, I applied Tim Holtzs’ “Distress Glaze” because all my mediums were water based and I didn’t want it to run when I applied the Gel Medium.

Once the gel medium dried, I created depth by applying a Pitt Artist Pen in Brown around her head piece.  This is a great way to complete your paper piecing so it doesn’t look disconnected or out of place.  To finish, I colored the flowers with more FW Pearlescent Paint in Waterfall Green and called her done!

I thrilled you stopped by today and encourage you to subscribe to the Technique Junkies Design Team Blog  for tons of inspiration.

I also want to remind you there is still a few days left to take advantage of the 15% off all new August Stamps at the Technique Junkies store.

By for now,

Design Team Showcase; August

Technique Junkies Blog Hop!

Is it August 1st already?  Well you all know what that means – Time for the Technique Junkie Design Team’s  blog hop showcasing the new Technique Junkies stamps for August.

I really loved this new release as the stamps beg for the application of color and vibrancy.  In addition to a bunch of cool new stamps, there are stencils, art anthology colorations, and a variety of new dimensional mediums perfect for those who like to play with ink.  As a special treat, Pat is offering 15% off all August Release Stamps for one week!  WooHoo!

I’d love for you to stop by all the design team’s blogs for great ideas and samples of other new August Release stamps  you can find in the Technique Junkies Store.

My first card uses the Grunged Stencil Tutorial on the Sensational Stencils CD for the background.   This is a super easy technique and fun with all types of stencils.  My stencil is from Dina Wakely and my ink is Distress.  I then “grunged” it using my own concoction of Perfect Pearls Spray made with water and powdered perfect pearls.

My focal image is a new Pallettini Stamp made exclusively for Technique Junkies called, Let’s Face it 5 #P030.  If you haven’t seen this series, there are some great faces in this collection so please check them out.

I stamped her on Copic X-Press It paper and colored her using E42, E33, and E25 Copic Markers.  I then stamped her headpiece using Versamark and clear embossing ink over Basic Grey’s “kneehigh” collection.  After fussy cutting her headpiece, I then applied it back on the image using Collage Pauge and once that dried, applied highlights using a Pitt Artist Pen in Brown.  This is a great way to add depth into your paper piecing. My final step was to add some Club Scrap fiber.

August Faces 5-wm

My second card uses the “Stencil Collage and Stencil Turn Techniques also from the Sensation Stencil CD”.  After stamping the “Contemporary Floral #S638” with Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossing with clear, I applied Abandoned Coral, Mowed Lawn, and Squeezed Lemonade through a Crafters Workshop stencil.  The background was then created using the same colors of distress paint as I did distress ink then applied black paint through a Heidi Swapp Herringbone Stencil. The sentiment is “Kindness Matters DX026.”

August Flowers-wm

My final card  uses the “Saturated Stencil Technique,” from the Sensational Stencils CD.  Don’t these CD’s have tons of great techniques?  I used Distress Stains in Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, and Squeezed Lemonade to create my background.  I then lifted up ink through the Tim Holtz Star Stencil using water and heat embossed “Circus Stars #S614” with white powder.  For the focal image I stamped and heat embossed “Lovers Silhouette #SD636” then colored it using the same colors from the background.  For my sentiment I created a banner from “Forever and a Day #SD599”

The House That Stamps Built; Designer Choice Challenge

It’s the second Wednesday of April and that means it’s time for a Designers Choice Challenge at The House That Stamp Built!  Today, Debbie is hosting our challenge and she has chosen “Anything But a Card.”

As with our other challenges, we are offering a $25.00 gift certificate to the Repeat Impressions store for our random winner.  Don’t forget, if you use a RI stamp, you get an extra entry!

For my “Anything But a Card” I chose to do an Art Journaling Page.  I started with some cheap craft paints in pink, peach and purple and applied it with random strokes.  You see some circles, lines, and otherwise haphazard application.  I added some white paint and stenciled some darker paint using a sponge. I then stamped Repeat Impressions, “Rose Heart Wreath 101-P” and sentiment from “Hugs & Kisses Stencil 1215-H” in archival black ink so it won’t smear.  I colored the image using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Mica’s and a water brush to give that sparkly feel.  To finish off the page I added some pearlized Modeling Cream through a Heidi Swap heart stencil and splattered some black ink spots about the page.

I sure hope you break out your creativity for “Anything But A Card” this week at The House that Stamps Built.  Happy Wednesday!
