Ellen Hutson 12 Tags With A Feminine Twist 2016 & Mixed Media Monthly

It’s that time again over at the Ellen Hutson Classroom for the 12 Tags with a Feminine Twist.  If you want to double down, you can combine this with the “Mix-it-up” challenge also featured in the classroom.  The Mix-it-up” challenge features Art Impressions so I have used a holiday set I picked up at Michael’s last year but doesn’t appear to have a specific name on the package.

I’m also entering this tag into the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge “Merry & Bright”.

For the Ellen Hutson portion of the “Mix-it-up” Challenge I used the “Merry & Bright” die but only used the “&” and a …  which is part of the letter “i” to imply Madge may have something else in mind!  The other component of the Mix-It-Up up challenges is to use Red, Teal and Green.

For my mediums, I colored her with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and instead of a waterbrush to move the paint, I used a Wink of Stella pen.  Perfect for the holidays.   The background tag is covered with Distress Paint in Evergreen Bought & Peacock Feathers then stamped with Hero Arts Silver using the Hero Arts Snowflake background.  I then foiled around the edges, a technique on Day 3 over at the Ellen Hutson Blog.

I’m sure many of you have noticed that I’m not posting much these days.  I’ve removed myself from all but two of the many design teams that I was working on but do plan on sharing intermittently as I find time to create.

A Blog Named Hero – Blooming Fall

Hello!  The Crafty Nurse here with a project using Ellen Hutson’s Essential’s By Ellen’s stamps and dies for the “Texture” challenge at A Blog Named Hero.

I combined the Essential By Ellen’s “Thankful” blooms and “Lovely” stamp sets using Rock Candy Crackle Paint and Distress Ink to texturize these gorgeous fall leaves. So they popped, I used the My Favorite Things Flog Die, which allows the card to stand up to further display these blooms.

A Blog Named Hero – Rays of Hope

Hello!  The Crafty Nurse here with a project using Ellen Hutson’s Essential’s By Ellen’s stamps and dies for the “Texture” challenge at A Blog Named Hero.  A very special thank you to Ellen for allowing us to play with their great product this month. Her generous spirit is known to many who frequent her store.

I was so excited to use the “Stay Salty” Essentials By Ellen stamp and die set to play with this month. I started by applying table salt to a wet watercolor wash to create texture and play off the “stay salty” theme.  I cut up that panel and stacked it for even more interest.  The sky was created with watercolors, distress inks, and a layering stencil.

Ellen Hutson’s January Mix It Up Challenge

Over at the Ellen Hutson’s Classroom there is a Mix It Up Challenge that calls for a card using products from Ellen Hutson and for January, My Favorite Things.  I probably use either a My Favorite Things stamp or die on every project so I just had to participate.

In fact, I just got the new release Tag Builders 5 in the mail today so I was exceptionally happy to play with my new goodies.  For the Ellen component, I used the great starburst image in “Merry & Bright” both in the tag and in the background.  I created the shaker with the Tag Builders die by MFT and for paper I used MyMinds Eye “Fancy That.”  Finally, for the sentiment I used another new release stamp called, “Love You More.”

Ellen Hutson’s Pin-Sight Challenge December

Today I got off work a little early and wanted to play so I created my December Pin-Sight Challenge for Ellen Hutson’s Classroom.  Here is the inspiration:

I used the inspiration from Julie’s past Make it Monday using the Brushstroke Christmas. I also used Mistletoe & Holly stamp and dies stamping them with gold embossing powder and watercoloring with Distress Markers.  The background is We R Memory Keepers Basketweave folder cut from My Favorite Things Brushed Gold Metallic paper.

Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags with a Feminine Twist #2 & Lindy’s Stamp Gang December Color Challenge

I was so inspired by Day 5’s Feminine tags over at the Ellen Hutson’s Classroom, I had to create another.  This tag is inspired by  Carissa Wiley and Kryssi Ng.  I loved the theme of Glitz & Glitter, which is pretty unusual for me but since I am no longer sending cards to OWH, there’s a lot more sparkle in my life!  In addition, I wanted to use the Lindy’s Stamp Gang December Color Challenge as additional inspiration so here is that color palette.

2015-december

I used Ellen Hutson’s Mondo Poinsettia and Brushstroke Christmas stamps as well as the Brushstroke “Joy” die. It’s all on sale now too so go check it out!  I colored the poinsettia in with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical Mica’s in Rizzo’s Rowdy Red, Ponderosa Pines Olive and Black Orchid Black.  I also used Flat Shot Cafe Au Lait for the center then dotted with a little Black Orchid Black Magical.  The pine boughs from Penny Black were stamped in the background with Versamark then embossed with Snow Tinsel powder by Ranger.  The tag is Papertrey Ink which I extended using the same partial die cutting technique as shown by Carissa in her video in the Ellen Classroom.

The Tags are Simon Says Stamps Wonky label cut three times using my all time favorite paper by Little Yellow Bicycle called Winterings, which is no longer available.  I embossed those with the Snow Tinsel powder as well.  I finished off by adding the stitched elements on the bottom, red stickles for the berries, and Penny Black birds in the trees with a bit of wink of stella.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my second feminine tag!  Which one do you prefer? There is so much inspiration in the Ellen classroom, you won’t regret stopping by.

Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags with a Feminine Twist

For those of you who don’t know about Ellen Hutson’s Classroom, you are missing a great blog where so much creativity is offered and taught.  Each year Ellen hosts her own version of 12 Tags and asks they have a feminine twist.  I was inspired by Carolyn Pooler and Stephanie Wincott on Day 1.  I loved the use of the distress inks and floral elements in white embossing.

I used several Ellen Hutson products including, “Brushstroke Christmas, Cozy Christmas, and Mondo Poinsettia.  It’s all on sale now too so go check it out!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my feminine tag!

Ellen Hutson’s June Pin Sight Challenge

Happy Saturday!  Today I’ve made a card for Ellen Hutson’s Pin Sight Challenge.  This is a super fun challenge that offers a great prize!

Here’s the inspiration:

Pinsight

I began by stamping Wish Big by Julie Ebersole in Hero Arts Shadow Ink then colored them with Copic Markers.  I added some highlights in the balloons with my favorite white Signo Uniball then splattered with gold and black.  I added the card panel crooked to give a little birthday whimsy.

Ellen Hutson Mix it up Challenge

For this Ellen Hutson’s Challenge, cards are to include a combination of Alte New & Ellen Hutson products.  My card uses the “Mondo Magnolia” sentiment from Ellen and “Sketchy Cities America” from Alte New.  The skyline is Boston and is a design case from Jen Rzasa that she taught in the Online Card Classes Watercolor.   In class she used Inktense pencils, however, I played with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers.  I also tested them on Bristol Smooth 100lb paper and they work FABULOUSLY.  I had tried them on Neenah Solar White and they didn’t blend so I was pleased to find another surface besides watercolor paper for my new markers.

The background stamp is from Club Scrap.  I created the background on another card base then stamped the city, colored it and then fussy cut it out, popping it up on the background sheet.  I also used a brush and side water rather than a water brush.  I’m finding this works better for me.

Mix it Up Challenge using Ellen & Avery Elle

Happy Thursday Friends.  Today I broke out my Dylusions Ink to do some watercoloring to enter my card into the Ellen Mix It Up Challenge.  For this challenge Ellen chooses one other company for a combined product challenge.  This week it’s Avery Elle.

My card features the “Mondo Magnolia” by Ellen and the Avery Elle “Gift Tag” set. To achieve this look I followed Julie Ebersole’s tutorial from a previous “Hello Monday” called “Magic Watercolor” – Thanks Julie!

Believe it or not, Julie almost scrapped this because she didn’t like how it came out at first but I’m thrilled she persevered.  The birthday sentiment is from “Cupcake Party” by Simon Says Stamp.
