It’s Monday and time for another Cards In Envy Challenge. This challenge is super fun and the theme is “Inspired By A Song.” I went a little silly on this despite my card not being whimsical. As we are heading into fall, I wanted to highlight an image featuring fall colors, thus, found “The Acorn Song.” If that doesn’t sound familiar, you will at once know the chorus that goes, “I’m a nut, I’m a nut, I’m a nut.” Okay – I’m laughing hysterically now thinking about that fun song and the clicking noise you make at the end of it. I hope others know what I’m talking about so I’m not laughing alone!
Before we get to the card, just a reminder that the Cards in Envy rules are simple and require only that your card fit into a A2 standard envelope.
My card today features a Tim Holtz’s Autumn Blueprint stamp. I began with a manilla tag and inked it with distress inks and stenciled over that to create a little mixed media feel. I colored the ribbon with distress stains and stamped another Tim Holtz stamp for the sentiment. The background is canvas paper from DCWV.
Well, that’s it for me today. I’m off to make more cards singing, I’m a nut, I’m a nut, I’m a nut…..
From the Heart Stamps (FTHS) is holding a Design Team call through August 31, 2015. I look forward to submitting my card for consideration as they rarely open up for design team calls.
I chose a pumpkin Birdbrain image called, “Great Pumpkin Birdbrain” because Fall is my favorite time of the year. I colored my card with Copics and kept it clean and simple allowing the coloring to shine. The background is BV23, BV25, B41, B91 and a touch of B39 which I texturized with burlap and alcohol. For the pumpkins I used YR04, YR07, YR09, and R08. For the birds I used V01, V05, V06 and V09. Grass is YG03, YG17 and YG67. Ground E40, E41 and E42. The sentiment is from “Bewitchin’ Birdbrains” and cut out with Simon Says Stamp curved die and distressed with Scattered Straw and Fossilized Amber Distress Ink.
Here is a card using the sketch outline from Seize the Sketch made with Sticky Back Canvas and painted with acrylic paints. The stamps and sentiment are both Lawn Fawn and the image is embossed, though the canvas absorbed most of the ink and didn’t leave too much embossing behind. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t have bleeding paint. The leaf in the corner is burlap. Design paper is Lawn Fawn “into the woods”.
It’s time for a Tuesday Sketch Challenge at Try Stampin’ on Tuesday. Here is my Design Team inspiration for this summers challenge of doing what makes you happy using the TSOT sketch. I started with white embossing powder on smooth bristol card stock with Tim Holtz “Papillon” script stamp. The papillon butterfly was colored with distress markers. You’ll want to work in the distress inks until smooth. I die cut some burlap with a My Favorite Things die and used a Paper Smooches sentiment. The card was topped off with some ribbon and called it a card. Hope to see you on the Try Stampin’ on Tuesday Site this week so we can see what makes you happy!
