My Favorite Things Beautiful Blooms Kit

We are here in Virginia in the middle of a blizzard but much to my excitement, I got the My Favorite Things January kit delivered yesterday – WOW, is this a beautiful kit.  It’s pricey alright, but does include a full stamp set, die set, ink, card stock, design paper, sequins, and a inspiration sheet.  I’ve made this card from a sample off that sheet.  Thanks MFT!

Mixed Media Monthly Challenge; Time Flies & Class Work

Hello friends.  Between the fabulous Creative Jump Start and the amazing Wanderlust 2016 courses I’m taking I’ve been having a great time playing with paint and ink.  Today I made an several projects.

My first is an entry for the Mixed Media Challenge for Time Flies.

time

My page began with Dylusion’s Paints in Lemon Zest, Fresh Lime, and Vibrant Turquoise applied with the blending tool.  I added some Tim Holtz Stencils, a few Close to My Heart Stamps, and marks with a cap and a credit card. It’s a really basic page but just trying out some of the techniques I’m learning.

My next project was inspired by Andrea Gomoll from the Creative Jumpstart Course on Frida Kahlo.  It was done with watercolors. Frida painted a lot of vibrant colors and self portraits and the flowers are supposed to mimic a hat.

My next project is a cover page for the beginning of a journal as taught in Wanderlust 2016.  This is an entire year of classes taught by multiple teachers and I’m already have a blast.  I didn’t have the tools that were used in class so I’m not as happy with it as I thought, but again, I’m learning so hopefully will get better.  I was excited to learn more about collage, balance, and placement.

Open-Minded Crafting Challenge #41 “Kids Want To Have Fun”

It is with sadness that this is the last and final challenge post for Open-Minded Crafting Challenges as the blog is closing.  It’s been such a great pleasure to work with this team and the blog organizers Susan and Vicky.  I’d love to have this final challenge go out with a BANG so please enter a card and make this send out a good one.

For our final challenge we are focusing on kids.  The “Kids Want to Have Fun”  challenge will run through Friday, July 31st.  There are lots of prizes from our generous sponsors so I again, I hope you’ll join us for the very last challenge at Open-Minded Crafting.

Here’s our sponsors this week and the prizes they are offering:

ImagineThat_zpsfeff7c51Prize: 3 Digital Image Sets

LiaStampzBadge_zps22eea511Prize: 2 Digital Images

Stamping BoutiquePrize: 4 Digital Images

slsPrize: 3 Digital Images

For my card today, I chose an adorable image from The Stamping Boutique called “AJ The Race Car Driver.”  I began by coloring the image with Copic markers.  A tip to coloring black hair is to lay down a layer of blue before adding the gray colors which makes a great highlight.

For the background, I played with liquid masking using Miskit by Grumbacher.  I created the racing marks using Tim Holtz “treads” stencil after Miskit was dried.  I had some challenges pulling it up off the paper so it dulled my Copic colors a little, but I think it was worth the effect – what do you think?

The paper is from Carta Bella “Boy oh Boy” 6 x 6 collection and the circle dies are from My Favorite things.

Can’t wait to see what your “Kids Want to Have Fun” card looks like!  Vroom, Vroom!

Open-Minded Crafting Challenge #40 – Photo Inspiration

Happy 4th of July to those in America!  It’s time for a new challenge at Open-Minded Crafting.  Today we are doing a photo inspiration challenge.  What is great about this type of challenge is the artistic freedom left open to you and your interpretation of the photo.  I sure hope you’ll join us because this is the second to the last challenge at Open-Minded Crafting Challenges blog.

Here is our photo:

Again, we have some really fantastic sponsors who are offering very generous prizes.  All you need to do is enter a card, or three for a chance to win.  The last day to enter for this challenge is July 17th. Here is a list of the sponsors and their prizes:

bugbadge2_zpsf61bba10Winning Prize: 7 Digital Images

Faery InkWinning Prize: 5 Digital Images

KennyKWinning Prize: 3 Images

Oakpond Winning Prize: 3 Digital Images

My design team inspiration today features a Kenny K image called, “Da Bomb”.  She looks like she may be up to a little trouble, but was sure fun to color as so many of KennyK’s images are.  I used Copic Markers and fussy cut her out, making sure to use a black permanent marker on the edges to give that extra detail.  I pulled out the orange in the photo as well as the flowers for my inspiration.

The background is stamped with Paper Smooches “I Heart Art” splats and then stenciled with a mesh using distress ink.  I then used a brick embossing folder to give that “wall” type feeling.  She is standing on a Lawn Fawn stitched rectangle and to complete the card I stamped the sentiment from Paper Smooches and added watercolor flowers and sequins.

I hope you stop by Open-Minded Crafting Challenge,  to check out all the other design team inspiration and enter our nearly final challenge.

For inspiration, I used a the super cool Nikki Burnette image called, “Steampunk Josie”. I distressed a woodgrain paper from Prima’s Cartographer collection and cut out the gears from the same paper pack with a Sizzix die.  I also distressed the edges with Antique Linen distress ink and added Tim Holtz film strip ribbon and metal embellishment gears.  I think she looks sassy alright!Steampunk Josie-wm

Open-Minded Crafting Challenge #38: Doodle

It’s Saturday friends and that means it’s time for a new Open-Minded Crafting Challenge.  This challenge focuses on Doodling!  How fun is that?  Please use your imagination and doodle away. It’s all about having fun!  Put doodling in your sentiment, on your image, or in your background. Anywhere you want!

As usual our sponsors have some great prizes for our randomly chosen winners.  The Design Team will also choose their favorite entries and those cards will be showcased on the Open-Minded Crafting Blog.  The challenge will remain open until Friday, June 19th, and I can’t wait to see what your doodling looks like.

Now let’s see what those prizes are:

Crafty Sentiments PicPrize: 3 Images of Winners Choice

Gerda Steiner DesignsPrize: 3 Images of Winners Choice

Sentimental SusanPrize: 7 Images of Winners Choice

Lizzy OddballPrize: 3 Images of Winners Choice

For my card I chose a Gerda Doodles image called, “Dog on Scooter.”  I colored him with Copic Markers and for my doodling, used a Copic Multiliner to jazz up his scooter.  I am no zentangler, but I gave it a go and had fun.  I just love the pure joy this little pup has with the wind on his back and his destiny in front. I thought this My Favorite Things sentiment from “Right on Target” fit perfectly.  The paper is from Echo Park “Getaway” and I used a Simon Says Stamp rectangle stitched die for my background.

For my card today, I used, “Cute Giraffe” by Chi Chi Memories.  The song that inspired my card was a child’s book called “Giraffe’s Can’t Dance.”   If you want a chuckle, I’ve linked you to a cute video with the song on YouTube.

The “Cute Giraffe” was colored with copic markers and fussy cut.  The background and sentiment was created using an older Club Scrap stamp set called “Cute As A Button” stamped with Hero Arts Shadow Ink.  The squares are cut out using My Favorite Things Stitched dies and I finished off the card with a few pearls.

I can’t wait to see what you are singing this challenge!

Hello crafty friends, it’s Saturday and that means it’s time for a new Open-Minded Crafting Challenge.  This challenge asks you to recycle something.  This can be something you’ve used before, have had for a while, or a material that could be recycled.  I took a rather different approach to the recycle theme, which you will see in my card.  I think you’ll get a chuckle out of it.

As is our custom, we have some wonderful sponsors providing several generous prizes for our randomly chosen winners.  The Design Team will also choose their favorite entries and those cards will be showcased on the Open-Minded Crafting Blog.  The challenge will remain open until Friday, April 24th, and I look forward to seeing what you want to recycle.

Now let’s see what those prizes are:

Dr. Digi's House of StampsPrize: 2 Images of Winners Choice

SmearedInkLogo_zps47cb07f1Prize: $15.00 Gift Certificate

Now, how about some inspiration on what I am recycling? Grandma! LOL  I think she’s been around long enough to qualify, don’t you? This adorable image is from Stitchy Bear called, “Birthday Girl.”  I colored her with copic markers and used Bazzill’s School Daze 6 x 6 Paper Pack. The oval and flag dies are My Favorite Things and the sentiment is Taylored Expressions “Party Grumplings”.
