Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop
Hello Friends. It’s time for the annual Operation Write Home Memorial Day Blog Hop. This is a special hop as our mission this year is finishing strong because Operation Write Home is closing it’s doors! I’d love for you to help me get the word out that we need to finish strong. That means we still need cards, but they must be sent in no later than August 1, 2015.
For your participation in the hop, if you leave a comment on my blog I am giving away a brand new Dylusions Paint jar in Bubblegum Pink!
So let’s get to a little inspiration. For my card I broke out my old tools of dry embossing, the light table and stylus. One thing I had forgotten was you have to reverse the stencil so the image comes out in the right direction. My first go had my flag facing left and that just won’t do! HAHA.
I inked the edges with Antique Linen and Vintage Photo to create the distressed look. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink “Military Hero” stamp set. Paper is from Farmhouse “Fair Skies” collection.
Please leave me a comment and if you like what you see, sign up to get my e-mail notifications for more inspiration.
Happy Hopping and don’t forget, please continue to send your cards into OWH until August 1st!

Very pretty, Kathy! Thanks for making me think, “where is my light table stashed??” (no worries, I know exactly where it is)

Hi Kathy- I love the flag- stunning! Good for you to pull out some older supplies–you make them look new and exciting! You do not have to enter me in your drawing- but you are so sweet to offer a chance to win!

Your embossed stencil work is beautiful. The subdued red white and blue colors work so well with your flag.

I had also forgotten about hand embossing! LOL I like that you have left the flag in sepia tone. Somehow it makes it more thoughtful (if that makes sense).

Hi Kathy! I love this stenciled flag. That’s a great technique I had not thought of in a while. Have a great day!

I love that you embossed this way! I used to do that and need to re-activate my stencils instead of running always to the EFs!
Great color flow with the base card and the distress and the DP.

It’s fun to break out old tools and this is proof that it’s worth the effort. I can’t recall the last time I embossed anything with a stylus but the deep, embossed result is great. Nice job!

I still have my light box, stencils and stylus too! Your embossed flag is heart warming and makes a beautiful card. I hope you kept your backwards image, you can still flip it over and use it as an de-bossed image. That way it will be going in the right direction.

I’ve wondered how to embellish those embossing folders with pretty designs. I was just thinking about that yesterday, so you’ve answered my question! Thanks!

Great card, Kathy. It’s nice to see someone using an “old” technique. I still get out my brass stencils and lightbox, too, but certainly not as much as I once did. I love the way you gave the flag a more vintage feel instead of going with the traditional red, white, and blue.

I’m going to have to look up a tutorial on how you created the embossed panel – it looks awesome. Love the distressed look to your card too.
