Operation Write Home Sketch 238 & Our Daily Bread October Card

I combined the Operation Write Home Sketch #238 with the Our daily bread October challenge listed on the OWH Blog which calls for a winter card that is non-Christmas.   My first thought was to do white on white snowflakes, which I should have stuck with, but decided to break out my Wink Of Stella silver pen and colored the snowflakes.  Then I remembered NO GLITTER on an OWH card – so I covered it with embossing powder and melted multiple layers, then froze it so it would crack.  The silver snowflakes now look grey.  Oh well, it’s the thought that counts!  The paper is one from a few years ago by Little Yellow Bicycle called “Winterings”, I do really like it.  My sentiment is from My Favorite Things and the sequins in pretty pink posh.

Watercolor Raven – A Day For Daisies

It’s the weekend and I’m back at my crafting desk.  Why can’t everyday be Saturday?  I’d sure rather create than work.  Today I wanted to watercolor so I grabbed the freebie from A Day For Daisies and printed it on lightweight 90 lb watercolor paper by Canson.  I heat set it with my new Milwaukee heat gun and used distress ink cubes in weathered wood, tumbled glass, vintage photo, pumice stone, black soot, peeled paint, gathered twigs, and scattered straw from Tim Holtz/Ranger with a water brush.  With all watercoloring, make sure you work in sections and allow each to dry.  That way you don’t get mud.  The paper is from Bazzill’s Arsenic and Lace. Sentiment is My Favorite Things.  I also added some glitter on the sentiment for the A Day For Daisies challenge.  I’m happy with how this came out – what do you think?

Open-Minded Crafting Challenge #21: Pumpkins/Jack O’ Lanterns!

Happy Saturday Friends.  It’s time for another Open-Minded Crafting Challenge and this challenge continues in a fall theme, but specifically asks that a pumpkin or jack o’ lantern be used in your design.  The difference you say….. a pumpkin is without a face and a jack o’ lantern is with a face.  As is usual for Open-Minded Crafting, we have some FANTASTIC sponsors offering really generous prizes!  There will be a random choice of winners for the sponsor prizes and the design team will select their favorite card among the entries and those cards will be highlighted on the blog.  How fun is that?

So now that you know what the challenge is, let’s get to some details about the sponsor prizes.  We have:

Now, how would you like some inspiration?  For my card I chose an image from Oakpond Creations.  I Love, Love, Love coloring pumpkins with my copic markers.  I tend to use Yr04, Yr07, Yr09, R08 and have recently been using Y38 for some highlighting. I have lots of coloring choices for pumpkins and lots of other combinations using Copic Markers on my Pinterst page – check it out!   My card example is using one of my go to fall paper pads from My Minds Eye called “All Spice”.  I cut the Simon Says Stamp Thanks die twice and then layered it to give a cast shadow.  The leaves are from Impression Obsession and they are so popular they are always out of stock.  It was well past fall last year when I finally got them.  The ovals are cut from the My Favorite Things oval stack.  I finished the card with a wooden button distressed with gathered twigs distress ink from my new mini pads – don’t you just love those?
